Lloyds, one of Barclay' key rivals in UK banking, has been using value based performance measures for years. Barclays confirmed it would follow suit this week. Barclays managers have apparently identified over a billion pounds of cost reductions between now and 2003 as well as big sales opportunities in areas like mortgages. The business is being split into 30 business lines to achieve greater transparency of value performance and clearer management accountability.
